Suite 230-102 Atlanta, GA 30307 RE: The tariff classification of a printed circuit connector from GermanyDear Mr. Eich:In your electronic ruling request submitted on August 19, 2014 on behalf of your client, Rausch & Pausch, LP, you requested a tariff classification ruling.The items under consideration are identified as plug connectors, part numbers 16487 051 and 16487 052. Each of these rectangular shaped plugs measure 35mm x 20mm x 32mm and have ten pins inside. You state that the plug connector is a part used in the assembly of a computer controlled magnetic valve block (similar to an electromagnetic switch), which is used in vehicles with air suspension systems. In a subsequent correspondence with our office, you state that the plug connector will be incorporated into a printed circuit board and suggest that it be classified under subheading 8536.90.8085, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for: Other apparatus (other than plugs). The suggested classification is correct at the heading level only. It is specifically provided for eo nomine. The applicable subheading for the plug connector will be 8536.69.4040, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for; Electrical apparatus for switching or protecting electrical circuits, or for making connections to or in electrical circuits (for example, switches, relays, fuses, surge suppressors, plugs, sockets, lamp-holders and other connectors, junction boxes), for a voltage not exceeding 1,000 V: Lamp holders, plugs and sockets: Other than lamp holders: printed circuit connectors. The general rate of duty will be Free.Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change.
