Product description

The merchandise to be imported consists of cabinet doors made from coconut husk (coir). Coir is a fibrous, cellulosic material that surrounds the outside of a coconut. It is a waste material made as a result of harvesting coconuts. The coir is processed into small particles and added to a thermoset resin. The mixture is compression molded under heat and pressure to form cabinet doors. The doors are finished with a thin decorative PVC laminate. The doors are used for kitchen and bathroom cabinets.

Dear Ms. Chan: In your letter dated July 31, 2000, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The merchandise to be imported consists of cabinet doors made from coconut husk (coir). Coir is a fibrous, cellulosic material that surrounds the outside of a coconut. It is a waste material made as a result of harvesting coconuts. The coir is processed into small particles and added to a thermoset resin. The mixture is compression molded under heat and pressure to form cabinet doors. The doors are finished with a thin decorative PVC laminate. The doors are used for kitchen and bathroom cabinets. The rate of duty will be free. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
