It provides the printers with adjustments to automated color and image density, ribbon usage tracking and ribbon conservation. The SP35 and SP55 card printers are thermal transfer printers that connect to a computer. They print an inline topcoat for clear or holographic laminate in addition to the base colors: yellow, magenta, cyan, and black. The printers meet Chapter 84, Note 5 (D) and are classified under subheading 8471.60.

You request a ruling for the prepackaged replacement ribbons for the “Datacard” printer system. The ribbons are on spools designed specifically for the SP35 and SP55 SP series card printers. The ribbons have radio frequency technology that enables them to communicate to the printer which ribbon has been inserted. It provides the printers with adjustments to automated color and image density, ribbon usage tracking and ribbon conservation.
