Tariff classification

HTS codes: 5607.50.4000

Headings: 5607

Product description

You submitted a piece of braided cord. In a telephone conversation with this office you identified the sample as item number 145200001. The fiber content is listed as 100% polyester. You describe it as a gimped cord. However, gimped yarn is defined, for tariff purposes, as being composed of a core, usually one or more textile yarns, around which other yarn or yarns are wound spirally. While this cord has a core of numerous plies, the covering yarns are not wound spirally around them. Instead, the core is sheathed with a braided yarn. A tightly braided or plaited yarn such as this is considered cordage of heading 5607, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), for classification purposes.

CBP rationale

The applicable subheading for the braided cord, item 145200001, will be 5607.50.4000, HTSUS, which provides for twine, cordage, ropes and cables, whether or not plaited or braided, of other synthetic fibers; other.
