Issued May 13, 2008 by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Tariff classification
HTS codes: 8412.80.9000
Headings: 8412
Product description
Descriptive literature and an illustration were submitted. The item you plan to import is described as the ME-1601 thermoelectric actuator. This actuator is to be used with a valve and is controlled by a separate device such as a thermostat which provides an electric current to the ME-1601 under certain predetermined conditions. When the electrical current is supplied, a semi-conductive disc heats and melts a wax element causing it to expand. The pressure generated by the expanding wax pushes a piston stem that opens or closes a valve.
CBP rationale
The applicable subheading for the thermoelectric actuator will be 8412.80.9000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for other engines and motors.
