Tariff classification

HTS codes: 8414.90.1080

Headings: 8414

Product description

Descriptive literature and an illustration were submitted. The item you plan to import is described as a variable inlet vein. You indicate that the vein is a component of a fan that acts as a damper. Air pressure generated by the blowing fan allows the veins to open allowing air to flow through. The veins close when the fan is turned off. You suggest classification of the item under heading 8481, HTSUS, which provides for valves. However, the inlet vein is more specifically provided for as part of a fan in subheading 8414.90.

CBP rationale

The applicable subheading for the inlet vein will be 8414.90.1080, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for other parts of fans, including blowers.
