The tariff classification of golf gloves from Thailand.

Dear Ms. Fanfara: In your letter dated May 23, 2006, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The provided sample, Style 66336 “WeatherSof” is a Footjoy brand men’s left-handed golf glove with a leather palmside thumb and perforated knitted fabric inserts across the knuckle area and at the lower backside thumb. The balance of the glove is constructed of a knitted nylon fabric with a polyurethane coating on the outer surface. The tight fitting golf glove features a palm side coated fabric reinforcement measuring approximately 3-1/4 inches by 2 inches sewn vertically at the seam below the pinky. Additional features include fourchettes, perforations on four backside fingers, an elasticized wristband sewn at the underside of the glove bottom, and a vented backside wrist area that is secured by hook and loop fasteners. The “WeatherSof” glove will be sold in a variety of sizes and colors for men and women as style numbers 66344, 66303, 66311, 66360, 66379, 66416, 66429, 66445, 66458, 67832, 67817, 67840, 67863, 67874, and 67484. The essential character of the golf gloves is imparted by the polyurethane coated knitted fabric classifiable under chapter 61. The applicable subheading for all styles will be 6116.10.0800, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for Gloves, mittens and mitts, knitted or crocheted: impregnated, coated or covered with plastics or rubber: other gloves, mittens and mitts, all the foregoing specially designed for use in sports, including ski and snowmobile gloves, mittens and mitts. The rate of duty will be 2.8 percent ad valorem. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
