Jones Blockware, Inc. 3901 Gantz Road Grove City, OH 43123 RE: The tariff classification of a jewelry box from China. Dear Ms. Jones: In your letter dated May 9, 2005, you requested a classification ruling for a jewelry box. The sample submitted is identified as SKU #TBL01020. The item is a lidded compartmented container designed and used for the storage, protection and organization of jewelry and similar goods. It is manufactured with an exterior surface of quilted man-made fiber textile material. The jewelry box measures approximately 5” x 5” x 2 ¾”. Your sample is being returned as requested. In your letter you suggested classification under subheading 6307.90.9889, HTSUSA, which provides for other made up articles of textile, other. However, the jewelry box is of a kind eo nomine provided for in HTS 4202, and is more specifically provided for in that heading. Such goods are excluded from heading 6307 by legal note. The applicable subheading for the jewelry box will be 4202.92.9026, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for trunks, suitcases… jewelry boxes and similar containers, other, other, of man-made fibers. The duty rate will be 17.6 percent ad valorem. HTS 4202.92.9026 falls within textile category designation 670.
