Royal Lane, Suite 100 Coppell, TX 75019 RE: The tariff classification of RF remote control units from Taiwan. Dear Mr. Mutto: In your letter dated July 21, 2003 you requested a tariff classification ruling. The items in question, (samples submitted), are RF remote control units used in the home to operate ceiling fans. They are denoted as the TCS Hand Held Conversion Kit and the TCS Conversion Kit. Each unit has both a RF handheld remote control device and a RF receiver that is mounted to the ceiling fan. The kits allow the user to operate the ceiling fans by radio frequency from anywhere in the home. Line of sight control is not necessary. The applicable subheading for the RF remote control units will be 8526.92.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Radar apparatus, radio navigational aid apparatus and radio remote control apparatus: Other: Radio remote control apparatus. The rate of duty will be 4.9 percent ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
