Box 1485 Winston-Salem, NC 27102-1485 RE: The tariff classification of an article of plaster from India and Italy Dear Mr. Jessup: In your letter dated February 19, 1999, you requested a tariff classification ruling. A representative sample of the item was submitted with your ruling request. The submitted sample consists of a woven cotton scrim yarn which has been coated with plaster of paris. You indicated in your letter that the plaster of paris constitutes the greatest portion of the bulk and weight of the product. You further indicated that the merchandise will be imported in rolls, 2 to 6 inches in width by 200 yards in length. The item will be used to make orthopedic casts. The applicable subheading for the article of plaster will be 6809.90.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for articles of plaster or of compositions based on plaster: other articles. The rate of duty will be free. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
