TARIC — the Integrated Tariff of the European Communities — is the EU's online database that adds two additional digits to the 8-digit Combined Nomenclature, creating a 10-digit classification number. TARIC is maintained by the European Commission and updated daily.
While the CN governs the base rate of duty, TARIC layers on EU-wide measures:
- Tariff suspensions
- Tariff quotas
- Antidumping and countervailing duties
- Preferential rates under FTAs and the EU's GSP
- Prohibitions and restrictions
- Customs Union duties (Turkey, Andorra, San Marino)
EU importers must declare the full 10-digit TARIC code on every import declaration. The TARIC database is publicly accessible at ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs.
