Batka Wheels of Boulder, Mfg., Inc. 11811 Upham Street (Suite 7) Broomfield, CO 80020 RE: The tariff classification of ball bearing retainers from Taiwan Dear Ms. Batka: In your letter dated April 6, 2005 you requested a tariff classification ruling on behalf of Wheels of Boulder, Mfg. The articles in question are described as ball bearing retainers of various dimensions. The photographs submitted reveal that the ball bearing retainers are essentially ball bearings without inner and outer races. The ball bearing retainers are comprised of steel balls and a circular retainer cage that keeps the balls in place and ensures that their spacing remains constant. You indicate that the ball bearing retainers are used to replace worn bearings in bicycles. The applicable subheading for the ball bearing retainers will be 8482.10.5068, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for other ball bearings. The rate of duty will be 9 percent ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
