Product description
The submitted samples are round placemats constructed from braids of 100 percent polypropylene strip. Each strip is less than 5 mm in apparent width. The braided polypropylene strips are sewn together, spirally, slightly overlapping each braid, to create a 15 inch diameter placemat. The round placemat will either be imported as a solid color or designed using various colors to resemble a slice of watermelon. The individual strips meet the dimensional requirements of textile strips contained in Section XI, Legal Note 1(g) of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS). As it is considered a textile, the placemat is classifiable in heading 6302, HTSUS. Additionally, we note, pursuant to Note 1 of Chapter 54, strip and the like of heading 5404 or 5405 are not considered to be man-made fibers.

Correction to Ruling Number N299446 Dear Ms. Kveton: This letter replaces Ruling Number N299446, dated August 23, 2018, which contained a clerical error with regard to the classification. A complete corrected ruling follows. In your letter dated July 26, 2018, you requested a tariff classification ruling. Samples were provided with your request and will be retained by this office. The submitted samples are round placemats constructed from braids of 100 percent polypropylene strip. Each strip is less than 5 mm in apparent width. The braided polypropylene strips are sewn together, spirally, slightly overlapping each braid, to create a 15 inch diameter placemat. The round placemat will either be imported as a solid color or designed using various colors to resemble a slice of watermelon. The individual strips meet the dimensional requirements of textile strips contained in Section XI, Legal Note 1(g) of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS).
