Fairbanks Project Manager, Customs Staples Inc. 500 Staples Drive Framingham, MA 01702 RE: The tariff classification of electrical cables from China Dear Mr. Fairbanks: In your letter dated July 20,2018, you requested a tariff classificationn ruling. The items in question are cables (Item #’s 53354-US, and 53355-US). The first item (Item # 53354-US) is a six foot fabric covered USB-C cable used for USB-C compatible devices only. This item will charge and sync USB-C equipped devices from standard USB-A equipped computers and chargers. USB 2.0 supports up to 480 Mbps transfer speeds. This device supports up to 15W charging power. The second item (Item # 53355-US) is a six foot fabric covered lightening connector cable. This item is designed to connect specifically to Apple® products, which include but are not limited to iPhones, iPads, and iPods. The applicable subheading for the cables (Item #’s 53354-US, and 53355-US) will be 8544.42.2000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Insulated wire, cable…: Other electric conductors, for voltage not exceeding 1,000 volts: Fitted with connectors: Other: Of a kind used for telecommunications.” The rate of duty will be Free. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change.
