Sands Neue Halberg Guss GmbH 16 Kirchstrate Saarbrucken, 66130 Germany RE: The tariff classification of Engine Block from Germany Dear Mr. Sands, In your letter dated January 5, 2016, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The item under consideration has been identified as an Engine Block, which is a housing case for a V8 6.6 liter diesel engine used in motor vehicles. You state in your request that the product will be pre-machined only to remove burrs and allow for pre-location of the complete machining steps which will take place at the final customer in the USA. The engine block is cast in Grade 250 cast iron and weighs 150 kilograms (kg). The applicable subheading for the Engine Block will be 8409.99.1040, which provides for “Parts suitable for use solely or principally with the engines of heading 8407 or 8408: Other: Other: Cast-iron parts, not advanced beyond cleaning, and machined only for the removal of fins, gates, sprues and risers or to permit location in finishing machinery: For vehicles of subheading 8701.20, or heading 8702, 8703 or 8704.” The general rate of duty will be Free.
