A sample was included with your request and will be returned to you. The product under consideration is a Ball Stud, Part Number 244478. You indicate in your submission that the Ball Stud is part of a latching mechanism for a casket lid and is made of steel. It is said, the Ball Stud is screwed into the lid of a casket and designed to be inserted into the latching mechanism in the base of the casket. The Ball Stud is inserted into the hole and the handle to the latch is slid over the Ball Stud in order to secure the casket lid shut. Merchandise is classifiable under the HTSUS in accordance with the General Rules of Interpretation (GRIs). GRI 1 states that for legal purposes, classification shall be determined according to the terms of the headings and any relative section or chapter notes. The Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System Explanatory Notes (ENs) constitute the Customs Cooperation Council's official interpretation of the Harmonized System (HS).
