Dear Mr. Keller: In your letter dated April 23, 2013 you requested a tariff classification ruling. The product under consideration is described as a forged steel bar, part number 558627. This bar is made of alloy steel and measures approximately 16 inches in length and 1.25 inches in diameter. It will ultimately be used as a rod within a hydraulic cylinder for use in lifting, handling, loading or unloading machinery. The applicable subheading for the forged alloy steel bar will be 7228.40.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for other bars and rods of other alloy steel, other bars and rods, not further worked than forged. The rate of duty is free. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change.
