Issued April 3, 2013 by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Tariff classification

HTS codes: 8421.39.8015

Headings: 8421

Product description

The subject merchandise, based on the submitted information, is an air filter, identified as the “Plastic Vent Cover” (part number 0A-1446-0122), which measures approximately 7 inches high by 7 inches wide by 2 ½ inches deep. The vent cover comprises three levels of protection against the entry of objects, dust and moisture, including two-directional louver blades and a nonwoven synthetic fiber filter housed in a plastic cover. After importation, the vent cover will be attached to a separately imported exhaust fan, situated inside and mounted to the rear of the light-emitting diode (LED) video and message display. The internal louver blade is designed to cause a “V-shaped” airflow pattern that allows air to pass unhindered, while trapping water and dust particles that impact it at any angle. Moreover, although the fiber-based filter media will absorb moisture, it has such draining properties that prevent the fan from pulling water into the display. In conjunction with this feature, the bottom surface of the vent panel is so designed to allow the water, drained from the filter, to drain back out the front of the vent.
