Smay, Import Manager Phoenix International Freight Services, Ltd. 3401 Quebec Street, Suite 7700 Denver, CO 80207-2345 RE: The tariff classification of ink jet cartridges from China Dear Ms. Smay, In your letter dated September 25, 2012, you requested a tariff classification on behalf of Spectracorp Ink Jet Technologies of Denver, Colorado. The item under consideration is an incomplete “Plastic Ink Jet Cartridge” shell. As you stated in your request, the “Plastic Ink Jet Cartridge” is partially manufactured and imported in two (2) pieces. After importation, the cartridge parts are assembled and have the circuitry and ink added. The applicable classification subheading for the incomplete “Plastic Ink Jet Cartridge” shell will be 8443.99.2510, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for "Printing machinery used for printing…other printers…and…parts…: Parts…: Other: Parts…of printers: Parts of printer units…: Other: Ink cartridges". The rate of duty will be Free. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States and the accompanying duty rates are provided on the World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
