Grace & Co.-Conn., you requested a tariff classification ruling on two grades of synthetic amorphous silicon dioxide (CAS no. 7631-86-9). A sample of each product has been submitted for review and will be returned. Both products are described as white, odorless, powders. The submitted documentation further indicates that the products at issue are amorphous silicon dioxides, chemically prepared. The applicable subheading for both grades of synthetic amorphous silicon dioxide (CAS no. 7631-86-9) will be 2811.22.5000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for Other inorganic acids and other inorganic oxygen compounds of nonmetals: Other inorganic oxygen compounds of nonmetals: Silicon dioxide: Other. The general rate of duty will be free.
