The subject product, Acetylcysteine is also known by its chemical name, N-acetyl-L-cysteine. It is a mucolytic agent which destroys or dissolves thick mucus in order to help relieve respiratory difficulties. In your letter, you indicate that it is used for the treatment of acetaminophen overdose. The applicable subheading for Acetylcysteine in bulk form will be 2930.90.4920, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Organo-sulfur compounds: Other: Other: Other: Acids: Other: Mercaptocarboxylic acids.” Pursuant to General Note 13, HTSUS, the rate of duty will be free. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change.
