Dear Mr. Johnson: In your letter dated October 5, 2010, you requested a tariff classification ruling. You provided CAS numbers for the product and its components for our review. The product described as a polyhydroxyalkanoate (CAS-117068-64-1) is a linear saturated polyester copolymer that consists of two repeating polyester monomer units, methyl (R)-3-hydroxybutyrate (CAS-3976-69-0) and ethyl 3-hydroxybutyrate (CAS-5405-41-4), and contains carboxylic ester functions in the polymer chain.
