Dear Ms. Enkhbold: In your letter dated March 16, 2010 you requested a tariff classification ruling. The product you plan to import is identified as aluminothermic chromium metal. Imported in lump form, this metal contains a minimum of 98.5 percent chromium. The applicable subheading for the aluminothermic chromium metal will be 8112.21.0000 Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for beryllium, chromium, germanium, vanadium, gallium, hafnium, indium, niobium (columbium), rhenium and thallium, and articles of these metals, including waste and scrap, chromium, unwrought; powders. The rate of duty will be 3 percent ad valorem. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
