Weastec, Inc. 1600 North High Street Hillsboro, OH 45133-8259 RE: The tariff classification of an ignition coil with wire from China Dear Mr. Ernst, In your letter dated November 16, 2009, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The item under consideration has been identified as the Coil Assembly, IGN (Part # 30500Z0J 0040). It is an ignition coil insulated within a rectangular housing that has an attached insulated wire with an insulated spark plug connector on its end. You state in your ruling request that the coil is imported for use in the production of a 160cc, single- cylinder, 5HP engine, typically used in lawnmowers, snow blowers and power washer applications. The applicable classification subheading for the Coil Assembly, IGN (Part # 30500Z0J 0040) will be 8511.30.0080, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Electrical ignition … equipment of a kind used for spark-ignition … internal combustion engines … ( … ignition coils … ) … : … ignition coils: Ignition coils”. The rate of duty will be 2.5%. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States and the accompanying duty rates are provided on the World Wide Web at http://ww.usitc.gov /tata/hts/. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
