Dear Mr. Beitz: In your letter dated March 18, 2009 you requested a tariff classification ruling. The merchandise under consideration is described as a shaft protection bushing for an industrial centrifuge, part number 2500460. You state it is made of a chrome-oxide coated metal alloy, and is approximately 7.5 inches in internal diameter, 9 inches in external diameter and 3.75 inches long. This bushing is specifically designed to be affixed to and rotate with the main rotating shaft of an industrial centrifuge, in order to protect the shaft from wear. The applicable subheading for the shaft protection bushing, part number 2500460 will be 8421.91.6000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Centrifuges, including centrifugal dryers…parts thereof: Parts: Of centrifuges…: Other.” The rate of duty will be Free.
