It is composed of short pieces of whole bamboo cane assembled together in a pattern of adjacent connecting rows with spaces in between the pieces. The ends are bordered with strips of split bamboo. Bamboo in the form of whole cane is not suitable for plaiting. The product will be used in the kitchen for placing hot pots or pans onto to protect the countertop.

The ruling was requested on the “Bamboo Countertop Mat,” item # A029FA02610. A photograph and product specifications were submitted. The product is a rectangular trivet, measuring 8” x 8” x ½”. It is composed of short pieces of whole bamboo cane assembled together in a pattern of adjacent connecting rows with spaces in between the pieces. The ends are bordered with strips of split bamboo. Bamboo in the form of whole cane is not suitable for plaiting. The product will be used in the kitchen for placing hot pots or pans onto to protect the countertop. The applicable subheading for the “Bamboo Countertop Mat,” item # A029FA02610, will be 4419.00.8000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for: Tableware and kitchenware, of wood: Other (than forks and spoons). The rate of duty will be 3.2 percent ad valorem. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change.
