Product description
The sample is 18 mm thick and consists of thirteen plies of veneer, laminated together so that the grains of the plies run at angles to each other. The face and back ply are thin (less than 0.5 mm thick) veneers of birch (Betula spp.). The middle plies consist of veneers of poplar or mixed poplar and tropical wood, each ply approximately 1 mm to 2 mm thick. The plywood will be imported in 4’ x 8’ sheets and in various thicknesses (2.7 mm, 5.2 mm, 9 mm, 12 mm, 15 mm and 18 mm). The edges, ends and surfaces are not further worked.

St. Louis, MO 63141 RE: The tariff classification of birch plywood from China Dear Ms. Liu: In your letter dated June 12, 2008 you requested a tariff classification ruling. The ruling was requested on birch plywood panels. A representative sample was submitted. The sample is 18 mm thick and consists of thirteen plies of veneer, laminated together so that the grains of the plies run at angles to each other. The face and back ply are thin (less than 0.5 mm thick) veneers of birch (Betula spp.). The middle plies consist of veneers of poplar or mixed poplar and tropical wood, each ply approximately 1 mm to 2 mm thick. The plywood will be imported in 4’ x 8’ sheets and in various thicknesses (2.7 mm, 5.2 mm, 9 mm, 12 mm, 15 mm and 18 mm). The edges, ends and surfaces are not further worked. The applicable subheading for the plywood panels with a face ply and a back ply of birch, described above, will be 4412.32.0540, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for: Plywood, veneered panels and similar laminated wood: Other plywood, consisting solely of sheets of wood, each ply not exceeding 6 mm in thickness: Other, with at least one outer ply of nonconiferous wood: Not surface covered, or surface covered with a clear or transparent material which does not obscure the grain, texture or markings of the face ply: With a face ply of birch (Betula spp.): Other (than panels of certain specified dimensions): Not surface covered. The rate of duty will be free. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change.
