Tariff classification
HTS codes: 8544.70.0000
Headings: 8544
Product description
The items concerned are referred to as “Optical Fiber Cable Assemblies or Patch Cords” (s/n 07061440158 and s/n LFP510071001). Both cable assemblies are constructed from what is known as Duplex Zipcord cable. Zipcord cable appears to be two separate cables, each containing one individually sheath optical fiber and aramid yarn encased in an outer jacket of PVC, join together down the length of the cable with a thin web of PVC. This makes it possible (if necessary) to pull the two halves of the cable apart and have two separate, yet complete, fiber optic cables. Style number 07061440158 measures approximately three feet in length and incorporates optical fiber connectors on each end. Style number LFP510071001 measures approximately twenty-one feet in length and incorporates optical fiber connectors on each end. Both styles are two-fiber optical cables, in a Zipcord construction. The fiber optic strands are constructed of glass, have a cladding of acrylate and are individually sheath in a colored covering of PVC. The sheathed fibers are combined with strengthening material made of Kevlar aramid yarn which runs the length of the cable. The sheath optical fibers and Kevlar aramid yarn is housed within an outer jacket made of PVC.
CBP rationale
The applicable subheading for both styles of Optical Fiber Cable Assemblies or Patch Cords (s/n 07061440158 and s/n LFP510071001) will be 8544.70.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for Insulated wire, cable and other insulated electric conductors…: Optical fiber cables”.
