Lichstein Carpathian Industries 51 Newark Street (Suite 400) Hoboken, NJ 07030 RE: The tariff classification of a ball valve of plastic from China Dear Mr. Lichstein: In your letter dated March 14, 2007 you requested a tariff classification ruling on behalf of Carpathian Industries. The article in question is described as a plastic ball valve with a polypropylene ball, Teflon seals, polyethylene body and a metal collar. The valve is operated by means of a hand lever and is used as a drain for liquid storage tanks. A sample was submitted. The applicable subheading for the plastic ball valve will be 8481.80.5090, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for taps, cocks, valves and similar appliances, hand operated, of other materials. The rate of duty will be 3 percent ad valorem. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
