Jamaica, NY 11430-0972 RE: The tariff classification of Basmati rice from India. Dear Mr. Brady: In your letter dated July 14, 2006, on behalf of your client Kusha Incorporated, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The sample provided is a five-pound bag of husked (brown) Basmati rice. The applicable subheading for the Basmati rice will be1006.20.2000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for rice, husked (brown) rice, basmati. The rate of duty will be 0.83¢ / kg. This merchandise is subject to The Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002 (The Bioterrorism Act), which is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Information on the Bioterrorism Act can be obtained by calling FDA at telephone number (301) 575-0156, or at the Web site www.fda.gov/oc/bioterrorism/bioact.html. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change.
