Grand Blanc, MI 48439 RE: The tariff classification of scarves from India. Dear Mr. Marshall: In your undated letter you requested a tariff classification ruling. The samples will be returned to you as requested. Two samples of scarves composed of woven 100% silk fabric were submitted with your request. Sample 1, Gold Scarf measures 22” x 72” with fringe at both ends. You state that the Gold Scarf will also be imported measuring 10” x 72” and 45” x 72”. Sample 2, Red Scarf with fringe at each end measures approximately 10” x 60”. The applicable subheading for the Sample 1, Gold Scarf and Sample 2, Red Scarf will be 6214.10.1000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for "Shawls, scarves, mufflers, mantillas, veils and the like: Of silk or silk waste: Containing 70 percent or more by weight of silk or silk waste." The duty rate will be 1.2% ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
