The subject product, Hexafluoro-2-methylisopropanol, is a halogenated derivative of an acyclic monohydric alcohol indicated for use a pharmaceutical intermediate. The applicable subheading for Hexafluoro-2-methylisopropanol, also known as 2 Propanol, 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-methyl-, will be 2905.59.1000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Halogenated, sulfonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives of acyclic alcohols: Other: Derivatives of monohydric alcohols….. The rate of duty will be 5.5 percent ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
