Dear Mr. Montgomery: In your letter dated July 15, 2003, you requested a tariff classification ruling. You have submitted five samples with your request identified as items A to E. Each item is manufactured of 100% cowhide leather. Item A is a CD case specially designed to contain ten compact discs. It measures approximately 5 1/2”(W) x 5 ½”(D). Item B is a zippered case specially designed to store/carry a palmtop personal computer. It measures approximately 6 ½”(W) x 4 ¼”(W). Item C is a steel wire split ring on a leather fob. The rate of duty will be 8 percent ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
