NY J81379 March 6, 2003 CLA-2-84:RR:NC:1:102 J81379 CATEGORY: Classification TARIFF NO.: 8481.80.9005 Ms. Shelley Vybiral Snap-tite Inc. 8325 Hessinger Dr. Erie, PA 16509 RE: The tariff classification of a solenoid valve and parts of unspecified origin Dear Ms. Vybiral: In your letter dated February 12, 2003 you requested a tariff classification ruling on behalf of Snap-tite Inc. The article in question is described as a “solenoid valve package”. Based on the information submitted the solenoid valve package is a kit comprised of a solenoid valve , two brass nipples, a brass elbow, and a push-to-connect fitting. You indicate that the “package” may also contain a reducer fitting. Assuming that the items in the kit are packed ready for sale at retail, the kit is a set for tariff purposes. The solenoid valve imparts essential character to the kit, with the included fittings serving to facilitate installation of the valve for its intended purpose. Descriptive literature was submitted The applicable subheading for the solenoid valve package will be 8481.80.9005, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for solenoid valves. The general rate of duty will be 2 percent ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
