Based on your letter, each quilted square is filled with 7 grams of 100% sodium acetate trihydrate and packaged for retail sale in a wall tube. The blanket is used for smothering grease fires in kitchens or in other locally contained areas. The sodium acetate trihydrate imparts the essential character and will be classified as a separate chemically defined compound.

O’Neal #13 Interstate Corporate Center, Suite 141 Norfolk, Virginia 23502 RE: The tariff classification of a Chemical Fire Blanket from China Dear Ms. O’Neal: In your letter dated March 28, 2002, you requested, on behalf of your client Walter Kidde Portable Equipment, Inc., a tariff classification ruling. A sample of the chemical fire blanket was submitted with your inquiry and is being returned as requested. The blanket, quilted on both sides, is composed of 50% cotton and 50% polyester. Based on your letter, each quilted square is filled with 7 grams of 100% sodium acetate trihydrate and packaged for retail sale in a wall tube. The blanket is used for smothering grease fires in kitchens or in other locally contained areas. The sodium acetate trihydrate imparts the essential character and will be classified as a separate chemically defined compound.
