You submitted a request for information on delivering a pre-owned luxury car from Germany to San Francisco, California. The tariff classification for vehicles for the transport of persons is in the general heading 8708, Harmonized Tariff Code of the United States with a duty rate of 2.5% ad valorem from Germany. As to your request for other administrative information please review the attached booklet, “Importing Or Exporting A Car.” Also, please review the U.S. Customs Internet website: www.customs.treas.gov. For information on California’s motor vehicle regulations you can access their website: www.dmv.ca.gov/vehinfo/vehicles.htm. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
