L-Tartaric acid, CAS 87-69-4, also known as [R-(R*,R*)]-2,3-Dihydroxybutanedioic acid, is a bulk pharmaceutical intermediate. The applicable subheading for L-Tartaric acid will be 2918.12.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Carboxylic acids with alcohol function but without other oxygen function, their anhydrides, halides, peroxides, peroxyacids and their derivatives: Tartaric acid. The rate of duty will be free. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
