Dear Ms. Hui: In your letter dated July 14, 2000, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The sample submitted is a porcelain soup mug with looped handle, item number C-50679, which measures approximately 3 ½ inches in height with a top diameter of 5 inches. It is stated to be valued at $1.93 per piece ($23.16 per dozen). The applicable subheading for this porcelain soup mug will be 6911.10.5200, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for other tableware, kitchenware…of porcelain or china…soups, oatmeals and cereals valued over $9.30 but not over $33 per dozen. The rate of duty will be 8 percent ad valorem. In regard to your query concerning the assessment of additional duties, there is currently no countervailing or antidumping duty that will be assessed against this merchandise. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
