Chivini Austin Chemical Company, Inc. 1565 Barclay Boulevard Buffalo Grove, Illinois 60089 RE: The tariff classification of 5-Dimethylamino-1-naphthalene (CAS # 4272-77-9) from Japan Dear Mr. Chivini: In your letter dated June 1, 1999, you requested a tariff classification ruling. 5-Dimethylamino-1-naphthalene is a sulfonated, aromatic monoamine compound used as a pharmaceutical intermediate. Compound is also a derivative of 1-naphthylamine. The applicable subheading for 5-Dimethylamno-1-naphthalene, also known as 5-(Dimethylamino)-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid, will be 2921.45.9090, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Amine-function compounds: Aromatic monoamines and their derivatives; salts thereof: 1-Naphthylamine (á-Naphthylamine), and their derivatives; salts thereof: Other: Other: Other….. The rate of duty will be 1.2 cents per kilogram plus 12.6 percent ad valorem . This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
