Chivini Austin Chemical Company, Inc. 1565 Barclay Boulevard Buffalo Grove, Illinois 60089 RE: The tariff classification of d-Threo-(-)-2-amino-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3-propanediol (CAS # 716-61-0) from China Dear Mr. Chivini: In your letter dated May 24, 1999, you requested a tariff classification ruling. d-Threo-(-)-2-amino-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3-propanediol is an aromatic amino-alcohol which can be used as a chemical or biological intermediate. The applicable subheading for d-Threo-(-)-2-amino-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3-propanediol, also known as [R-(R*,R*)]-2-amino-1-(4-nitropheny)-1,3-propanediol, will be 2922.19.2000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Amino-alcohols, their ethers and esters, other than those containing more than one kind of oxygen function; salts thereof: Other: Aromatic: Other: 1-(p-Nitrophenyl)-2-amino-1,3-propanediol….. The rate of duty will be 5.8 percent ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
