Dairo Federated Merchandising Group 1440 Broadway New York, ny 10048 RE: The tariff classification of woman’s knitted jacket from Hong Kong Dear Ms. Dairo: In your letter dated March 9, 1999, you requested a tariff classification ruling. As requested, your sample will be returned. Style No. 1606 is a woman’s knitted unlined suit-type jacket made from 100% boiled wool. It features a collar, full frontal opening with metal button closure, long sleeves with turn over cuffs, and two patched pockets on the waist. The bottom, placket, neckline, cuffs and pockets have ribbed knit capped finishing. The garment reaches the vicinity of the waist. It has 6 panels. It measures 9 stitches per 2 cm in the horizontal direction and 11 stitches per 2 cm in the vertical direction. This style will also be shipped in petite size under style 1606p. The applicable subheading for the suit-type jacket will be 6104.31.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for women’s or girl’s suit-type jackets: of wool. The rate of duty will be 61.6¢/kg + 18% ad valorem. The jacket falls within textile category designation 435. Based upon international textile trade agreements, products of Hong Kong are subject to visa requirements and quota restraints.
