Dear Mr. Raia: In your letter dated November 17, 1997, you requested a classification ruling on behalf of your client, Enchante Slippers, Inc., 4 East 34th Street, New York, NY 10016. The submitted sample, style #SP2101, is a vanity case of PVC plastic measuring approximately 8« X 8 X 2« . This vanity case has dual compartments and features a 4 square make-up mirror. This vanity case closes with a snap covered by a self material flap. The applicable subheading for the vanity case of PVC plastic will be 4202.12.2050, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States Annotated, which provides for trunks, suitcases, vanity cases, attache cases, briefcases, school satchels and similar containers: with outer surface of plastic or of textile materials: with outers surface of plastic, other (than structured, rigid on all sides): trunks, suitcases, vanity cases and similar containers. The duty rate will be 20% ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations. A copy of this ruling letter should be attached to the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
