V2P 1L4 RE: The tariff classification of drawstring bags from Canada. Dear Mr. Oss: In your letter dated August 28, 1996, you requested a tariff classification ruling for drawstring bags. The sample submitted, identified as "Cloth Gift Bags", are an assortment of reusable, substantially constructed drawstring bags of a kind designed to contain personal effects. The bags are constructed of 100 percent cotton woven fabric. Their size range from approximately 12" x 18 1/2" to 6 1/4" x 10". You have indicated that the bags will be imported and sold at retail sale in packaging of six. However, for classification purposes each bag will be classified separately. The applicable subheading for the drawstring bags of 100 percent cotton woven fabric will be 4202.92.1500, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for travel, sports and similar bags, with outer surface of textile materials, of vegetable fibers and not of pile or tufted construction, of cotton. The rate of duty will be 7 percent ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
