Dear Ms. Gallego-Taveras: In your letter dated June 27, 1996, on behalf of Fashion-Craft Excello, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The submitted sample is a salt shaker which you indicate is composed of marble. Analysis of the item by the Customs laboratory indicates that it is composed of serpentine. The applicable subheading for the salt shaker will be 7116.20.4000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Articles of ... semiprecious stones (natural, synthetic or reconstructed):...Other: Other. The rate of duty will be 16.8% ad valorem.. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
