Dear Ms. Weck: In your letter dated May 20, 1996, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The submitted sample is a porcelain button. It is square shaped with scalloped edges. The button has a multi-colored design on the front. This item contains two holes for attaching to a garment. The applicable subheading for the porcelain button will be 9606.29.6000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for buttons, press-fasteners, snap- fasteners and press-studs, button molds and other parts of these articles; button blank: buttons; other, other, other. The rate of duty will be 4.6 percent ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
