Dear Ms. Levert: In your letter dated March 11, 1996, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The submitted literature depicts the item as a wire mesh deck. The deck consists of ¬" diameter steel wire, 2" x 4" mesh, welded at each intersection, with 12 gauge "U" channels for added capacity. The deck is used for storage and can be used for new rack installations or upgrading old floor standing rack systems. The applicable subheading for the wire mesh decks will be 9403.20.0020, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for : Other metal furniture: counters, lockers, racks, display cases, shelves, partitions and similar fixtures. The rate of duty will be 2.4% ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
