The tariff classification of roller screws from Switzerland
Issued April 23, 1996 by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Tariff classification
HTS codes: 8483.40.8000
Headings: 8483
Product description
The items at issue are various styles of roller screws: non-recirculating, ground screw thread; non-recirculating, rolled screw thread; and recirculating, round screw thread. A roller screw is a mechanism for converting rotary torque into linear motion, in a similar manner as acme screws or ball screws. The difference is in the rollers screw's design for transmitting forces. Multiple threaded helical rollers are assembled in a planetary arrangement around a threaded shaft (refer to picture), which converts a drive motor's rotary motion into linear motion of either the shaft or nut.
CBP rationale
The applicable subheading for the roller screws will be 8483.40.8000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for ball or roller screws.
