Box 3165 Harrisburg, PA 17105 RE: The tariff classification of an Outdoor Thermometer from China Dear Ms. Aldinger: In your letter dated January 25, 1996 you requested a tariff classification ruling. The item in question is an Outdoor Thermometer, designated item #961343. It is a white circular thermometer measuring 8 inches in diameter enclosed in a clear plastic cover. A red pointer is attached to the center to accurately display the temperature. The item is decorated with colorful birds and flowers. Two hooks are securely affixed to the back for easy hanging. The applicable subheading for the thermometer will be 9025.19.8080, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for thermometers and pyrometers, not combined with other instruments; other than clinical. The rate of duty will be 3.7 percent ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Section 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
