Box 1885 Sackville NB, Canada EOA 3CO RE: The tariff classification of pewter buttons from Canada. Dear Ms. Rensch: In your letter dated July 19, 1995, received in this office July 24, 1995, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The submitted sample is a button that is composed of 100 percent pewter. "Pewter" is an alloy of tin, copper and antimony. It is circular with a design on the front and a small loop on the back that it may be attached to personal clothing. The sample is being returned as requested in you correspondence. The applicable subheading for the pewter button, will be 9606.22.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for buttons, press-fasteners, snap and press-studs, button molds and other parts of these articles, button blanks, button, of base metal, not covered with textile material. The general rate of duty will be 2.9 percent ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Section 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of this ruling letter should be attached to the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
